Migraines are a specific type of headache classified as a moderate to severe throbbing pain usually on one side of the head. Migraine sufferers can also have other symptoms like feeling sick, being sick or having a sensitivity to light. Some types of migraines come on following a ‘warning sign’, also known as an ‘aura,’ such as flashing lights or a certain smell. Other types can occur without these auras.
There are also other types of headaches, like tension-type headaches caused by neck and upper back muscle tension. This can feel like a ‘tight-band’ around the head. Another type of headache is cervicogenic headache that is believed to be caused by joint irritation in the neck.
Migraine and other types of headache are a leading cause of disability in many people around the globe.
Chiropractors are skilled in diagnosing the cause of your headache. Chiropractic care and manual therapy can effectively manage and treat many types of headache and help patients overcome pain and disability.
